A quick note on Ukraine
I've not posted much on Ukraine for a while, but under Yanukovych there's been a slide into tyranny and greater corruption, unsurprisingly. It's depressing to see. Here's an unsettling report on the show trial of former prime minister Yuliya Tymoshenko. She's just one of a number of officials from the former government who are being prosecuted by Yanukovych, in his war on his political opposition. Here's a fairly diplomatic analysis of the situation (i.e. muted) by two former U.S. Ambassadors to Ukraine.
Ukraine's fall from the ranks of Free countries under Yanukovych is telling. I'm reminded that Lew Rockwell and his fellow friends of dictators called the Orange Revolution "genuine change denied." Now we're getting to see what these scoundrels mean by "genuine change."
