News You May Have Missed
[UC asks: when will the Bush regime begin to realize that there's a functional Iranian opposition, and that an attack on Iran will essentially eliminate this and turn the entire country to the hardliners? Probably never.]
In Russia, President Putin recites poetry to Sarkozy, invoking the 'mysterious Russian soul:' "You can't understand Russia with your mind/Nor measure her by the ordinary acre..."
[UC observes: a Ukrainian friend suggested to us that when Russians begin invoking the "mysterious Russian soul," they are usually making excuses for their bad behavior.]
[To our readers: could someone identify the poem and poet? BBC mentioned it and covered it in its entirety, but I missed it. Nathalie?]
For the weekend, UC takes a quick trip to Montana to tackle the famous Le Grizz 50 mile ultramarathon. I'm going to break a jinx that's kept me from completing the last three 50 milers I've entered, and move one step closer to Ten Bears.
