The President of Iran: blogger

Freedom for Egyptians points out that Iran's President Ahmadinejad has a new blog.

It's entitled, um, uh... Well, his first post is, uh...

I can't even tell what language I'm looking at. Farsi? Arabic?

Oh well. Clearly blogging by world leaders will be a fantastic new tool for promoting international peace and understanding. In fact, the more time they spend blogging, the less time they'll have for more dangerous mischief.

Let's get Kim Jong-il, Alexander Lukashenka, and Hugo Chavez started!

Comments:
interesting. i'll be back

I just wish we could get information into North Korea. But judging from the lack of light from this much circulated photo, it doesn’t seem hopeful.

Ok, Charles, you asked for it:
http://www.turkmenbashi.org/
But he does not blog yet...NV

Oh no -- me and my big mouth. And how does he qualify for an "org" designation?

well, first of all, www.turkmenbashi.tv was not available, secondly the "org" is quite justified, we are talking a major one-man organization here:
"Mr. Niyazov's success as President of Turkmenistan has been attributed to his extensive and productive work in stabilizing the economic situation of the country. He has established Turkmenistan's international prestige and has displayed concern for the people's well-being". How dare you question these basics and essentials facts...imagine when he starts blogging...all the nice things we will learn...NV

I stand corrected, Nathalie -- the Turkenbashi certainly qualifies as an org -- after all, he's providing "free" water, gas. and electricity to all the people of Turkmenistan.

Inspired by you, I tried www.lukashenko.org and www.kim-jong-il.org. Both exist. Lukashenka's page is a boring tsoviet thing with statistics about Belarus. Kim's page features high reolution action photos of him, a different photo every time you reload.

I'm never surprised when Tom Palmer has an idea before I do, but when third rate dictators do, well, that's depressing.

Ah, I find you tough on Luka's page. Beside the revealing statistics, there is a highly interesting description of the Prez himself:

"A.G. Lukashenko is notable for his in-depth understanding of events, hard work, sense of duty, realism, fairness and fidelity to principle. He openly voices his opinions, even to the audience not inclined to agree."

And, last but not least, the last §:

"Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko is an advocate of international programmes on ensuring human rights and fundamental freedoms, on fight against terrorism, violence, drug abuse and alcoholism."

Thanks, Nathalie.

Strangely enough, it appears that your cite from the Luka site is perfectly correct: he does indeed favor international human rights programs. It's only human rights programs in Belarus he opposes.
