“Democracy” in Lukashenka’s Belarus
Alexander Lukashenka’s Belarus is the last remaining outpost of Soviet central planning. In its last gasps, it has advanced planning into new dimensions, as polling places received targets (quotas) of votes for Lukashenka that they were to provide. Now that’s central planning – incorporating election outcomes into the Five-Year-Plan!
Here is a first-hand account of what it is like to be arrested by the Belarusian KGB.
A variety of reports on the violent crackdown on the Belarusian opposition are available here.
And the preliminary reports of OSCE election observers are also available.
Bottom line – Lukashenka is indeed a vicious dictator. May he truly be Europe’s last.
Cheers to the heroic opposition, both within and outside of Belarus…your cause will prevail. Socialism is the wave of the past, and this dictator will fall. It will not be easy, but liberty and justice will come to Belarus.
